About & content notes

Tale Trail Unbound is a small library of long stories written for readers aged 13–16. It’s the older sibling of Tale Trail’s picture stories: no pictures on the pages, longer chapters, bigger problems.

How stories are rated

Each story has a rating and a list of content notes on its page before you start.

• 13+: suspense, mild peril, arguments, grief handled gently. Romance stops at hand-holding and a first kiss.
• 14+: more sustained fear, a death that matters to the plot (never shown), or heavier emotional themes.
• 15+: the darkest stories on the site. Still nothing graphic, but the dread is real.

There is no swearing beyond very mild words, no gore, no sexual content, and no step-by-step detail about anything dangerous.

For parents and teachers

There is nothing to sign up for, nothing is tracked, and there is no chat or comments. Favourites and reading progress are saved only in the reader’s own browser. The stories work well for reading aloud, book clubs and creative-writing prompts, as every one ends on a question worth arguing about.

Reading tools

Every story page lets you change text size and switch between night, paper and sepia themes. It also remembers where you stopped, so you can close the tab mid-chapter and come back later.

Adding your own stories

Stories are plain text files in the source/stories folder. Add a file, run node source/build.js, and the site rebuilds itself. See the README for the format.
